Tencent enters video conferencing space with VooV Meeting, to compete with Zoom, GoogleMeet and others
By MYBRANDBOOK
Tencent recently has launched VooV Meeting, a Zoom-like video conferencing platform with advanced features to woo consumers in India. According to several media reports, Tencent launched VooV Meeting on March 20 across Apple App Store and Google Play in more than 100 countries including Malaysia, Singapore, India, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong and Macao.
As daily work and life continues to revolve around webinars and video conferencing tools during the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown, platforms like Zoom, GoogleMeet, Microsoft Team, Skype and others have seen rapid surge in the user base.
While existing video conferencing platforms have been enjoying their heyday, some new players are also entering the space with enhanced features and tools to make it more interactive.
VooV Meeting was recently taken for a test spin and found it working fine on Android and iOS devices. The app allows attendees to join meetings quickly on mobile phones, PCs, tablets, and webpages for a duration per meeting of 9999 minutes without any charges. As of now, the app has seen over 100,000 downloads on Play Store.
VooV Meeting is also integrated with WeChat’s ecosystem so that users can share their meeting links and join the conference via WeChat’s mini-program without downloading the app.
According to the company, the cross-border high meeting concurrency is supported by Tencent Cloud’s global network deployment, which comes with AI-based speech enhancement and high fidelity processing algorithms to minimize ambient noise and keyboard click sound.
Besides Tencent, Facebook is the other overseas player which announced the launch of its video conferencing platform Messenger Rooms. Currently there is no update on its availability in India.
On the other hand, JioMeet along with local startups such as AirMeet, Bharat.live, Say Namaste, Webkonf Meeting, among others, are also making it to the headlines.
