6 lakhs cybercrimes complaints have been received: Amit Shah

Addressing a meeting of the Advisory Panel to discuss ‘Cyber Crimes: Threats, Challenges and Response’, Home Minister Amit Shah said that the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit has so far blocked 266 mobile applications considered to be a threat to cyber security.
Over 6 lakh cybercrime complaints were received through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, leading to the registration of 12,776 FIRs.
The home minister said that the Government of India is committed to dealing with every aspect of cybercrimes and added that it was the responsibility of MPs as public representatives to try to spread awareness about cybercrimes.
He further confirmed that the infrastructure to deal with cybercrimes has been going on for the last seven years and now is completed. He added that the work of making analytical tools against cybercrimes is also 40% complete and efforts are being made to train police and lawyers to prevent cybercrimes.
As many as 3,800 forensic services were provided by the National Cybercrime Forensic Laboratory (NCFL) and seven Joint Cybercrime Coordination Groups (JCCTs) have been constituted which include all the states and Union Territories.
National Cybercrime Training Center (NCTC) registered 8,075 police personnel for online training and issued 1,877 certificates. Five R&D proposals of National Cyber Research and Innovation Center (NCR&IC) were also selected.
