Suzanne P. Clark, President and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, today welcomed steps toward a trade agreement between the United States and India—a long-standing goal for both American and Indian businesses.
“We congratulate the U.S. and Indian governments on their announcement to reduce tariffs and non-tariff barriers, benefiting companies and workers in both nations,” Clark said. “We appreciate the efforts of President Trump and Prime Minister Modi, along with officials including Ambassadors Kwatra and Gor. We are optimistic this marks the first step toward a comprehensive trade deal that will unlock greater private-sector collaboration, and we look forward to reviewing the details.”
Clark emphasized that the Chamber, its U.S.-India Business Council, and its members are committed to supporting implementation of the announcement. Last year, she visited Delhi and Mumbai to meet officials and business leaders, highlighting the importance of a trade deal to strengthen economic ties, create jobs, and bolster global security.
