Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the fourth edition of SEMICON India 2025 on September 2 at Yashobhoomi (India International Convention and Expo Centre), New Delhi. The flagship event aims to further India’s mission of becoming a global leader in the semiconductor industry by bringing together key stakeholders from government, industry, academia, and startups.

Organized under the theme "Building the Next Semiconductor Powerhouse," the event is being led by SEMI, the global industry association representing the electronics manufacturing supply chain, in collaboration with the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

India's semiconductor drive gathers momentum

India's push to strengthen its semiconductor sector has gained significant traction under the Semicon India Programme. As part of this strategic initiative, the government has approved 10 critical projects involving High-Volume Fabrication Units (Fabs), 3D Heterogeneous Packaging, Compound Semiconductors like Silicon Carbide (SiC), and OSATs (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test).

To bolster domestic innovation, MeitY has extended support to over 280 academic institutions and 72 startups by providing cutting-edge design tools. Furthermore, 23 startups have already been approved under the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme, empowering Indian entrepreneurs to design semiconductors for a wide range of applications such as CCTV systems, motor controllers, microprocessors, and communication chips.

These initiatives mark a critical step towards realizing the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision and building a self-reliant, resilient semiconductor ecosystem.

A platform for global collaboration and innovation

SEMICON India 2025 is set to be South Asia’s largest semiconductor and electronics exhibition, featuring nearly 350 exhibitors. The exhibition will host 6 international roundtables, 4 country pavilions, participation from 9 Indian states, and is expected to draw over 15,000 visitors.

“The SEMICON India exhibition will feature nearly 350 exhibitors from across the global semiconductor value chain including 6 country Round Tables, 4 country pavilions, 9 states participations and over 15000 expected visitors providing South Asia’s single largest platform for showcasing the latest advancements in the semiconductor and electronics industries,” said S Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY.

SEMI’s global leadership will also play a critical role in supporting India's semiconductor ambitions. “SEMI is bringing the combined expertise and capabilities of our member companies across the global electronics design and manufacturing supply chain to SEMICON India, helping to advance both India’s semiconductor ecosystem expansion and industry supply chain resiliency,” said Ajit Manocha, President and CEO, SEMI.

Leading companies and workforce initiatives in focus

This year’s edition will feature leaders from global semiconductor giants such as Applied Materials, ASML, IBM, Infineon, Lam Research, Micron, Siemens, SK Hynix, TATA Electronics, Tokyo Electron, and others. Across three days, attendees can expect high-profile keynotes, panel discussions, fireside chats, paper presentations, and country-specific roundtables.

To support talent development, a dedicated ‘Workforce Development Pavilion’ will highlight microelectronics career opportunities and engage students and professionals alike.

“The event is a remarkable convergence of ideas, collaboration and innovation and provides a unique opportunity to address complex challenges of tomorrow while fostering collaboration across the semiconductor ecosystem,” said Amitesh Kumar Sinha, Additional Secretary, MeitY and CEO, ISM.

“India's semiconductor industry is poised for a breakthrough, with domestic policies and private sector capacity finally aligning to propel the nation to global prominence,” said Ashok Chandak, President, SEMI India and IESA.
