India to develop its own AI model like ChatGPT and DeepSeek in 2025
By MYBRANDBOOK
India is gearing up to develop its own AI model akin to ChatGPT and DeepSeek, marking a major milestone in India’s AI development strategy. With rapid AI growth in India, the government and Indian AI startups are collaborating to build a robust AI technology ecosystem that can compete with global players. AI innovation in 2025 is expected to focus on indigenous AI solutions, reducing reliance on foreign models and strengthening India’s digital sovereignty.
The Indian government has announced a comprehensive AI strategy to foster domestic AI research and development. The initiative will involve public-private partnerships, where leading Indian AI startups, academic institutions, and tech giants will work together to develop an advanced AI model like ChatGPT. The goal is to create an AI-powered ecosystem tailored to India’s linguistic, cultural, and economic landscape.
Key focus areas include:
Development of Large Language Models (LLMs) trained on Indian datasets
Investment in AI infrastructure, including high-performance GPUs
Collaboration with Indian tech companies to enhance AI capabilities
AI-driven solutions for governance, education, and healthcare
While India has made strides in AI research, building a ChatGPT-like AI model requires significant computational resources. To address this, the government has selected 10 companies to supply 18,693 GPUs to support India’s AI development. This move aligns with the global AI race, where India seeks to match the efficiency of DeepSeek, a Chinese AI model developed at a fraction of the cost using 2,000 Nvidia H800 GPUs.
Additionally, India is fostering a thriving AI startup ecosystem, where companies specializing in machine learning, natural language processing, and AI automation are being encouraged to contribute. With strong government backing and private sector investments, AI technology in India is set for a transformative leap.
By 2025, India aims to launch its first homegrown AI model, focusing on multilingual capabilities, local context, and high scalability. The move will not only position India as a global AI hub but also empower businesses, developers, and enterprises to leverage AI for innovation. AI growth in India is expected to drive advancements across sectors, including healthcare, finance, education, and governance.
With India’s AI development gaining momentum, the country is set to become a key player in AI innovation in 2025. The creation of an AI model like ChatGPT reflects India’s ambition to lead in AI technology, ensuring a future where AI-driven solutions drive economic growth, job creation, and technological self-reliance. As Indian AI startups and policymakers work towards this vision, AI technology in India is on the verge of a transformational breakthrough.
