Intel launches it's new 3rd Generation Xeon Scalable processors
By MYBRANDBOOK
Intel brings 3rd Gen Xeon Scalable processor line-up, built upon its 10nm (nanometer) chip fab process and a processor platform codenamed Ice Lake-SP. It’s an important milestone for Intel that marks its first large scale chip architecture intended for data centers. The new Xeon data center platform has built-in AI acceleration, hardware security and is 46 percent faster than the last generation.
Our 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processor platform is the most flexible and performant in our history, designed to handle the diversity of workloads from the cloud to the network to the edge,” says Intel's Navin Shenoy. He further said that, Intel is uniquely positioned with the architecture, design and manufacturing to deliver the breadth of intelligent silicon and solutions our customers demand.
The new Xeon has built-in AI acceleration that makes it super easy to embed AI into every core application across the cloud. The new AI acceleration is also 74 percent faster compared to the previous generation. Xeon also has Intel's SGX security that protects sensitive data using on-board hardware accelerated data protection.
Ice Lake-SP is Intel’s server platform version of its standard low power Ice Lake architecture introduced a couple of years ago for Intel mobile solutions. However, Ice Lake-SP obviously has significantly scaled-up core counts, memory and IO bandwidth. More specifically, 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors now deliver up to 40 cores and 80 threads per socket, where the previous generation Cascade Lake topped out at 28-core / 56-thread per socket solutions.
The new Xeon also has built in Crypto acceleration which can help companies protect private customer data without impacting performance.
