To promote STEM education, innovation, and skill development among students of Indian schools abroad, Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan launched Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) in CBSE-affiliated schools in the UAE. The launch event, organized by the CBSE Regional Office and Centre of Excellence in Dubai, took place at the Consulate General of India and was attended by more than 225 school principals and educators. Schools from 21 countries also participated virtually, underscoring CBSE’s expanding global education network.

The programme began with a symbolic Ghaf tree plantation ceremony named Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, highlighting sustainability and environmental awareness among young learners. Cultural performances by students from Indian High School, Dubai celebrated India’s rich heritage, with a focus on cultural exchange and global learning initiatives.

During the event, Indian Ambassador to the UAE Sunjay Sudhir applauded teachers’ efforts in strengthening India’s educational footprint globally. CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta reaffirmed the board’s commitment to supporting schools abroad, while Pradhan’s keynote addressed the importance of aligning educational frameworks with India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to foster creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. He announced that ten CBSE schools in the UAE had already committed to establishing Atal Tinkering Labs, making it a key step toward empowering students in technology-driven learning environments.

A special interactive session allowed school leaders from around the world to engage in discussions on academic reforms, education technology, and collaboration opportunities, reinforcing a spirit of innovation and cooperation.

Expert speakers, including Deepali Upadhyay from Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, and Anil Kumar, Principal of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, provided deep insights into how ATLs promote entrepreneurial thinking, future-ready education, and 21st-century learning skills aligned with NEP 2020. The event concluded with remarks from Consul General Satish Kumar Sivan, followed by a vote of thanks and a high tea reception, celebrating this major milestone in global educational partnerships.

With this initiative, the Atal Tinkering Labs are poised to transform CBSE schools in the UAE into centers for innovative learning, science education, and research-driven projects, equipping students with the tools and mindset needed for success in an ever-evolving, technology-centric world. This launch reflects India’s growing commitment to shaping global talent ecosystems and fostering cross-border educational collaboration.
