According to industry sources, Samsung has now added laptops to its India production line, which already includes smartphones, feature phones, tablets, and wearables. The company plans to expand further by manufacturing more advanced devices in the near future.

Union IT and Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, following a meeting with Samsung Southwest Asia executives, highlighted the achievement, stating, “Samsung continues to expand manufacturing of its advanced technology devices in Bharat, driven by talent and innovation.”

Samsung was one of the earliest global electronics leaders to establish a manufacturing base in India in 1996. Earlier this year, TM Roh, President and Head of Samsung’s Mobile eXperience Business, confirmed preparations for local laptop production, underscoring Samsung’s strong commitment to India.

Today, Samsung operates its second-largest mobile manufacturing unit worldwide in India, making it a vital contributor to the country’s export ecosystem. It ranks as India’s second-largest handset exporter after Apple, producing all smartphones sold domestically, including its premium Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7, priced between ₹1.09 lakh and ₹2.11 lakh.

While Samsung maintains the second spot in India’s smartphone market by both volume and value, it aims to strengthen its position in the laptop segment, where it currently lags behind competitors. In the tablet market, however, Samsung ranks second with a 27% share, powered by strong sales of the Galaxy Tab A9 Plus 5G, which alone contributed 81% of its tablet shipments in Q2 2025.

With India’s tablet market growing 20% year-on-year and exports playing a key role in economic growth, Samsung’s expansion into local laptop manufacturing is set to further accelerate the country’s digital transformation, Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, and export competitiveness.
