UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY SYDNEY LISTED AS WORLD'S BEST UNIVERSITY

Sydney, Australia: With a year-on-year leap of 20 places the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) has broken the top 150 barrier in the latest QS World University Rankings, now listed as the world’s 140th best university.

In a trajectory going back eight years, the University of Technology Sydney has leapt 144 places in the global analysis of university performance by higher education analysts QS Quacquarelli Symonds. Among Australian universities, University of Technology Sydney has maintained its ninth position and is ranked 40th in the Asia Pacific region. UTS is one of 35 universities represented from Australia and one of 272 from Asia Pacific in this year’s ranking.

QS uses six indicators to compile the ranking: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty (measuring research impact), faculty/student ratio, international faculty ratio and international student ratio.

Employer reputation is the highest ranked indicator for UTS in the latest assessment. Globally recognised companies - such as KPMG, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), Ernst & Young (EY) and Westpac - work closely with UTS and its students for internship programs, campus events, campus placements and career opportunities. Additionally, part of the 20-place improvement in UTS’s world ranking has been driven by improvements in academic reputation and citations per faculty.

UTS Vice-Chancellor Attila Brungs said that although the various ranking systems had variations in the way they measured university performance, UTS had been on a similar trajectory in several of the key systems over several years. “It’s pleasing to see our QS ranking continue to reflect the increased recognition of UTS internationally as a university producing high-quality, globally-respected research that makes significant economic, environmental, cultural and social impact,” said Professor Brungs.

“It augments and complements the result of last month’s 2019 CWTS Leiden quantitative ranking of world universities that saw UTS leading Australiafor high-quality outcomes.”
