DeepSeek again found to be sharing user data with ByteDance
By MYBRANDBOOK
The DeepSeek data scandal has once again raised alarms about user data privacy issues, as reports reveal that the AI company has been sharing user information with ByteDance. This revelation has intensified concerns over data security, transparency, and user privacy protection, especially as ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has faced repeated scrutiny over its data handling practices.
South Korea’s Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) says it has uncovered evidence that DeepSeek has secretly been sharing data with ByteDance, the parent company of popular social media app TikTok. PIPC said that DeepSeek automatically transmits information to ByteDance servers every time users accessed the app, doing so without disclosure or explicit consent.
In response to the investigation, South Korea has removed DeepSeek from app stores, advised users against sharing personal information through the app, and is considering strengthening regulations on foreign companies in the country.

This DeepSeek and ByteDance connection has fueled debates about how tech companies handle user information and whether stronger regulatory oversight is needed. With ByteDance already under scrutiny in multiple countries over data privacy issues, this latest DeepSeek data leak adds to the growing distrust among users and regulators alike.
The exposure of DeepSeek’s data-sharing practices has renewed calls for stricter regulations to protect user data privacy. Concerns are growing over how personal data is collected, stored, and transmitted between companies, particularly when linked to firms with prior allegations of misusing user information. The DeepSeek and ByteDance connection has sparked fears that data collected by AI models could be used for unintended purposes, raising questions about ethical AI development and user data protection.
In response to the controversy, data protection advocates are urging companies like DeepSeek and ByteDance to adopt greater transparency and compliance with privacy regulations. The DeepSeek data scandal underscores the urgent need for enhanced cybersecurity measures, stricter regulatory frameworks, and increased awareness among users about how their data is being used.
