The 2nd phase of Green Energy Corridor gets cabinet approval

The government approved the second phase of the Green Energy Corridor with an investment of Rs 12,031 crore to enable grid integration and power evacuation of about 20 GW of renewable energy projects in seven states including Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka among others.

 

The scheme will help in achieving the target of 450 GW installed renewable energy capacity by 2030. Union Minister Anurag Thakur said the second phase will be implemented during 2021-22 to 2025-26 fiscal years, adding that 80 percent of the phase one work has been completed.

 

About 10,750 circuit kilometers (ckm) of transmission lines and around 27,500 megavolt-amperes (MVA) of sub-station capacity will be installed to facilitate electricity evacuation of around 20 giga watt (GW) of renewable energy projects.

 

It will generate large direct and indirect employment opportunities for both skilled and unskilled personnel in power and other related sectors.

 

The scheme will also contribute to long term energy security of the country and promote ecologically sustainable growth by reducing carbon footprint. It will generate large direct & indirect employment opportunities for both skilled and unskilled personnel in power and other related sectors.
