The new feature lets users instantly scan long articles through AI-generated bullet points, aiming to save time while browsing. However, mixed reactions highlight concerns over reduced engagement and potential spoilers from condensed content.
Elon Musk-owned micro-blogging platform X has introduced a new artificial intelligence-driven feature that condenses lengthy articles into brief bullet-point summaries. The update is aimed at users seeking quicker ways to evaluate content before committing to full-length reading.
The feature allows users to tap a “Summarise” button, which instantly generates key takeaways in a concise format. The rollout was confirmed by Nikita Bier, who highlighted its utility for users with limited time or shorter attention spans.
Mixed reactions from users
Initial feedback on the feature has been divided. Some users welcomed the addition, calling it a practical enhancement that simplifies content discovery and improves user experience. A section of users also suggested that summaries should be automatically generated, eliminating the need for manual input.
However, critics argue that the feature could undermine the value of original articles. By revealing key insights upfront, summaries may discourage readers from engaging with full content, potentially affecting publishers and content creators.
Expanding AI-driven features
The summaries feature follows another recent update from X — a “Listen” option for articles, introduced earlier this month. Powered by the platform’s Grok voice technology, the feature enables users to listen to articles while browsing their feed or even from the lock screen.
According to Bier, the Articles format on X has witnessed rapid growth in recent months, emerging as one of the platform’s fastest-expanding offerings.
Currently, access to Articles and related features is limited to premium subscribers. In India, X Premium and Premium Plus plans are priced at Rs 427 and Rs 2,570 per month respectively, with limited-period discounts available for new users.
The latest AI addition signals X’s continued push to integrate automation and enhance user engagement, even as debates around content consumption and creator value persist.
