The role of IT has changed significantly over the last few years. It is no longer just about keeping systems running—it is about enabling business growth, improving resilience, and building trust. In my view, creating a future-ready IT organization comes down to getting a few fundamentals right: governance, alignment with business goals, preparing people for change, making smart investments, and ensuring security.

It starts with governance. Earlier, IT teams often focused on tracking activities—how many issues were resolved or how many projects were completed. Today, the conversation has shifted to outcomes. What really matters is system reliability, user experience, cost efficiency, and how well we manage risk. Having clear metrics, supported by simple dashboards, helps teams stay focused and accountable. It also allows leadership to make quicker and more informed decisions.

Equally important is ensuring that IT strategy is closely aligned with the overall direction of the business. Technology should act as an enabler, not a constraint. A cloud-first approach, combined with automation and analytics, gives organizations the flexibility to scale and adapt as needed. At the same time, there is a growing need to stay aligned with broader priorities such as data protection, cybersecurity, and digital adoption. This alignment ensures that technology decisions remain relevant both from a business and regulatory perspective.

◆   Preparing the workforce for the AI era requires careful attention.
◆   There is strong excitement around Artificial Intelligence, but also some uncertainty.
◆   The focus should be on helping people understand how AI can support their day-to-day work.
◆   Simple training programs, hands-on exposure, and clear usage guidelines can build confidence.
◆   Guardrails should be in place, so AI is used responsibly, with human oversight where needed.

When it comes to IT investments, the priority should always be value. Every decision must have a clear purpose—whether it is improving efficiency, reducing risk, or enabling new capabilities. At the same time, resilience cannot be overlooked. Systems need to be designed to handle disruptions, whether through strong backup practices or well-defined recovery plans. This balance between value and resilience is what makes investments truly effective.

Finally, security and privacy continue to be at the core of everything we do. As organizations become more digital, the risks also increase. A layered approach to security, combined with strong awareness among users, helps in reducing these risks. At the same time, handling data responsibly and ensuring access to technology for a wider set of users builds trust and supports long-term growth.

In the end, IT has a clear purpose, even if delivering on it is complex: enabling the business to move faster, remain secure, and adapt to change with confidence.
