Thanks to its lineage with the “Railways” carrying more than 25 million passengers daily, RailTel exudes prestige and confidence. Since its inception in 2000, Railtel has been more of a carrier-to-carrier service provider, providing various telecom and associated infrastructure services to all major telecom operators of the country. However, RailTel has always been in the forefront in adopting and rolling out the network technology like MPLS-based network in 2005-06 or NGN-based Voice switch in 2007-08. Based on these services, RailTel forayed into Enterprise segment for various IP-enabled services.
In 2012, RailTel entered into the exclusive club of Mini-Ratna (Category-I) Enterprises and in 2015, RailTel received 6 prestigious awards, thus taking forward its legacy of serving the Indian Railway system.

RailTel has commissioned two Data Centers at Secunderabad and Gurgaon. In addition, it is also pitching for value- added services to its customers in the areas of Cloud, CDN, Telepresence, etc. RailTel has also started foraying into international markets for various ICT requirements of these countries and has initiated discussions with customers in SAARC and ASEAN countries. RailTel being a Government PSU has its vision and concentration on various important government projects, including NKN, NOFN and North-East project of USOF.
RailTel launched its first B2C product – RailWire – in the year 2013. RailWire- The retail broadband initiative of RailTel- in which broadband service delivery is done using a collaborative platform of stake holders which include Access Network Partners (LCOs, local entrepreneurs, residential societies) and IT service companies as Managed Service Providers.
RailTel has taken lead in providing fast Wi Fi at a number of A1 & A category stations. On partnership front, the company has also tied up with Google as technology partner with aim to provide 100 busiest stations of India faster access to public Wi-Fi benefitting over 10 million people every day. It has also established the eighth TCOE (Telecom Centre of Excellence) of the country. Also, in order to provide emphasis on R&D and innovations in the field of “ICT and Broadband applications” it has also tied up with IIT/Roorkee.
